June 24 (feast day for The Nativity of St. John the Baptist) is a statutory holiday in Quebec. Montreal is filled with outdoor concerts, parades, and events surrounding the holiday. Parades and Celebrations to start your experience!

The conference formally closes Saturday night, but you are encouraged to stay for Sunday, join the Jazz Festival, and then travel on to Ottawa (2 hour drive by car or hourly bus or by train throughout the day).

Montreal is accessible by air, train, bus, and highway from major points across Canada.

Montréal International Jazz festival. Free admission (for many concerts). June 26 to July 6. Worth staying for a few days … then on to Ottawa for Canada Day? The Friends of the Festival pass (it was $12 in 2007) gives access to late night jam sessions at the Hyatt hotel (in addition to a free compilation CD). The Jazz Festival musicians drop by to play with each other, and with locals (perhaps you?). This can make for an electrifying evening!
